My property manager is the seller

I’m buying a duplex from a seller that was also the property manager. Should I continue to use them as property management or is that a conflict of interest?

Do you think they will be looking out for my best interest

First, I would say make sure this property manager provides you with premier service. You can not lose focus on what a property manager job is. You should expect and value long term relationships more than short term ones. Do not settle for subpar services because he or she is the seller.

Secondly, communicate, communicate, communicate. Frequent, honest communication builds trust. Poor communication is one of the key reasons marriages and work relationships fall apart.

Finally, trust is built one day, one interaction at a time, and yet it can be lost in a moment because of one poor decision. Make the right decision.

I work with many of investors daily throughout the following markets:

Memphis, TN

St. Louis, MO

Birmingham, AL

Tuscaloosa, AL

Huntsville, AL

Dallas, TX

Houston, TX

San Antonio, TX

Oklahoma City, OK

Tulsa, OK

Little Rock, AR

Here is an article that you might find helpful and I love sharing with clients and potential clients looking for us to manage their property. I believe this article will serve you and your team well as you are interviewing those companies. It lists 20 questions you need to ask a property management company broken down into there segments from learning about them and their experience, learning about their systems and how they operate and finally a few to help you make that final decision on if they are a good fit.
