Building Townhomes vs Buying a Quad

Does anyone have experience building townhouses? I am working on a model involving building out a row of 4 townhomes as opposed to buying a quad. Just curious if anyone has built townhomes and could lend some advice on the process. I'm just in the feasibility study phase right now.
