Need to Buy a Phoenix Property to keep Mom from Homeless Shelter
My mom lives in Phoenix, and has been staying with a friend from church, but has to move out now as her landlord's son and daughter-in-law need a place to stay. She's got until early December to pack and move out, but unfortunately she's unable to find any housing that I'd affordable to her on an Uber-driven income.
I'm stationed up in Tacoma, WA, but am currently deployed until early December, and have limited capabilities between the time zone difference and an erratic flying schedule. I've got limited experience with investing through a VA loan triplex that I house hack in Washington (and closed on in January), and don't yet have experience with running a remodel. I have about $20,000 between cash reserves for my triplex and wedding savings.
This is just the state of where things are now; I'm definitely not here to complain. However, I'm hoping for some feedback or guidance on what's realistic to expect in the area.
The most ideal situation I can think of is to find her a house with a casita (or buy a house and add a casita in the back), so she can live in the casita and act as a property manager. Somewhere in the west side of Phoenix, near Luke AFB. Alternatively, if anyone knows of any multifamily properties that are feasible, that would also be ideal.
Anyways, I appreciate any feedback, referrals, or insights that you guys may have! The current plan is to get her in a cheap month-to-month lease while searching for a more permanent solution.
