House Hacking, where to start

Ian Coyne
Posted

Hi all, posting for the first time, hope this is in the correct sub.

I have been researching about RE investing for a while now and am hoping to start looking for places to live along with my s.o. and a 6 year old in a year or so. I understand everything that is required for a house hack but how do you make the rubber meet the road?

We are already in agreement that an owner occupied (primarily for one year +/-) multi family is what we have set our sights on, however upon reading forums, books, talking to people etc. it seems difficult to figure out where to start with all of the details and how you begin to execute.

We know how we will be funding it and how it will be managed, insurance etc.., but I would just like to understands what others trains of thought are when it comes to planning something like this. I understand what each separate part of an investment like this is but where it comes together is where I am needing a little help understanding. We are currently saving and planning to get things moving in a year or so I would just like to see what others have to say so I can start coming up with a plan for the future.

Thanks.
