Buying a house that is in a bankruptcy.

Looking at purchasing a house that is in the middle of a bankruptcy.  The owner says his attorney will take offers before the bankruptcy judge and get approval for the sale.  They have NOT foreclosed on the property yet.  He says he has until the end of the month to submit an acceptable offer before they start the foreclosure process.  Is this normal?  Anything I need to look out for outside of the norm?
