Areas of investment - Best to start?

Hello,

Before I continue, I just want to give a brief introduction, since its my first post (hoping to be a lot more active). I've been really interested in getting into real estate, and I just graduated college last year. I have around 14k in student loans left, and around 30k. I just started my life and am working as a software developer, but just like everyone else, hope to make real estate investing my full time job.

Living in Brooklyn New York my whole life, I know what New York City real estate prices look like. Whenever I see threads or read books about the investments others do, where they put like 20k down on a 95k house, buy a house for 80k etc, thats just unrealistic here. So I just wanted to ask a couple of questions.

A.) For someone starting off his life, and with little principle to his name, living in an expensive city, what would you guys recommend the best starting move to be?

B.) If you knew that areas here should be invested in quickly, because the market is just going to skyrocket soon, how would you go about getting in on it as fast as possible?

Any and all advice would be appreciated for a newcomer like myself! Thanks for reading this, hoping to hear back soon.

Cheers,

Albert
