newbie random question

Just a random question for anyone who has an opinion. I am brand new to real estate so any and all opinions are welcome. What are the pros and cons to buying vacant lots and building a home opposed to buying and flipping homes? Is there more opportunity for profit in one vs the other? Is there more risk buying a vacant lot? I know everything ultimately comes down to running the numbers involved to get a reasonable return when investing, but I was just curious if the risk vs reward was there for buying vacant lots? thanks everyone
