Can I wholesale property in Memphis w-out license

I'm interested in wholesaling in Memphis TN I know how it works and understand putting property under contract and not acting as the owner but I do not have a real estate license. I met a real estate agent which didn't even know what wholesaling was. Anyone know the correct way other then getting license
