Financing

As a newbie just starting out i'm beginning to wonder if it's really true that you can buy real estate with no money down. I have found several wonderful deals, but lost them for a lack of financing. I purchased a private lender list from private moneygold mine and got scamed out of $ 1,500.000 I called hardmoney lenders they wanted to charge me upfront money to get started, and then take all the profit I would make in the deal ( $ 50,000 ) and I would make $ 8,000.00. I know my credit is not the best, but God is there any truly legit lenders out there that will work with newbies with no money trying to get started? It's really bad when the home owner has made you a great deal and you can't take advantage of.
