House Haggling during Christmas, bah humbug!
Merry Christmas BPers! So despite the sarcastic title, I am no scrooge. :-) However, I do find it amusing what sellers will do/say following the inspection. Is it me or does it seem the better deal you negotiate for yourself initially, the more push back you see come inspection?
I mentioned previously being under contract for a property I plan to live in. One of the main reasons I'm pulling the trigger on it is because it is completely turnkey, move-in ready.
My inspector does his thing and finds some issues with the second bathroom (nothing crazy, but issues nonetheless). One of the items is a bad shower faucet causing the water pressure to completely disappear when turning on hot water. This along with two separate plumbing issues led my inspector to estimate $500 for a plumber to repair.
So I asked for a closing credit, figured wouldn't be an issue. Well, the seller's response was "there is nothing wrong with the faucet, there is a way to make it work."
Now folks, exactly how does one respond to that?
Hmmmm - A way to make it work....as in turn it all they way to the left and then an inch to the right, then you do the hokey pokey and spin the thing around?
Don't get me wrong; I grew up in a "MacGyver house", but I'm buying this condo for the specific reason of not having to do any of that.
So my RE agent had me sign a cancellation (given today was the last day of our inspection period) and told them if we can't come to some kind of agreement over repairs that we are walking. I liked that approach, cause again I really didn't know what to say to that response...LOL.
Long story short, they agreed on the credit by the end of day.
That's my rant, hopefully it was worth a laugh. Happy Holidays!
