Finding GCs at Home Depot

Hi there,

In regards to J Scott's recommendation to go to Home Depot at 6am to find a good GC, I'm curious who's done this and what approach you made? And how did you identify who's a contractor? I'm totally willing to try this; I just want to have a good approach/introduction ready.

Depends on the type of GC you're looking for.

The guys picking up material early in the morning at HD/Lowes/Menards are unlikely to run a very tight ship or handle large scale jobs. If what you want is a small-time guy, this might be OK.

For example - even when we buy something from HD/Lowes, we're getting it delivered. I personally love buying 100 bags of 80# concrete and getting it delivered next-day for $79. The delivery guy might hate me with a burning passion, but whatever.

If what you want is someone who can handle big jobs, go to a lumber yard and ask a sales rep there who a good person to work with is.
