Investing in western Wisconsin

Recently this year I decided to start taking the initiative to start informing myself on REI and I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to start acquiring my first property. I'm thinking of going with the Brrrr method by looking to invest into the famous "I want to buy a duplex" method. I'd just like to turn to the community and see if anyone had any suggestive tips and try to meet people who are a bit more local in the western Wisconsin area.
