Finding Past Purchase Info?

I'm thinking of making an offer to several homeowners in the area based upon what they had paid for the property when they purchased it. The offer would be contingent on my money partners, home inspection, and certifed appraisal. Is there a cheap & easy way to find out how much these people paid for their homes and what year they were purchased?
