Can I Get a Real Estate License?

Question

I am planning on getting a real estate license, does anyone know the best way to get a real estate license through the internet in Connecticut? Has anyone done it before? I would really appreciate some guidance on how to get started with this. Thank you.

@Connor O'Dwyer I just got reciprocity in Ct after passing in MA. I took all online classes through Jack Gately Real Estate based in Mass and would highly recommend it. The classes are online and 'On Demand' with the exception of 4, 4 hour long live taught lessons. I took the exam in West Springfield and applied for reciprocity. It can take up to 6-8 weeks for them to process it so be contingent of that.

@Connor O'Dwyer So @Kevin Kozak did the quick research. It is possible to get your Mass online and then get your CT through reciprocity. I would look at the cost and benefits to decide if it makes sense. Although I probably could have gotten my license quicker going the online route, I did enjoy going to the in person classes. Mostly because I took it with a few other investors and we asked a lot of questions that pertained to investing.

From the basic research I did you do not need to reside in mass to get the mass license and then get reciprocity for CT

Review local boards that might be offering classes:

Review the list to find the board closest to you, call them, and keep calling to see who offers something that suits your needs.

Then get after it. Don't be a passive observer. There are a ton of people who aren't serious in these classes who will even talk about how they are trying to make a lot of money.. that's not you. You're there to engage, ask questions, study, master the vocabulary and pass every test keeping in mind you are acquiring a tool you can utilize to accrue *Career Capital

I took the classes a couple of years ago and, at that time, the state did not allow me to take an online course. I had to go to a class for a total of 60 hours.

@Kevin Scanlon was living in Mass when he got his license and he took a class online. After he got his license in Mass, he was able to get his license in CT because of the reciprocity rule. Not sure if you need to be a Mass resident to get your license there, but that might be a loophole around the CT laws.

@Connor O'Dwyer, get a picture for your profile or at least put a giant pizza like @Mat O'Grady HAHA. Seriously though, Mat made a great suggestion. I am doing this now with a newer agent. Only downside is the time at takes to reciprocate. Ends up being nearly a month (MA drags their feet on preparing a "good standing" letter which is required for the reciprocity to happen. Before you start though, why are you getting your license? Are you planning to be a full time agent or a part time one? What are your goals with it? I am asking for a number of reasons, but most importantly to help you. Having your license, insurance, MLS, Realtor Association memberships, etc costs north of $1,200/year.  I see 50% of people who get licensed, that do less than a deal a year, which is not cost effective. I would be happy to chat with you any time if you would like some more insight.
