Buying from wholesaler
I am new to real estate investing and am wondering what types of things I would need to know before purchasing a property from a wholesaler. Would I need an attorney? Title company? Real estate agent? Can you offer less than the asking price? Any other advice?
Thanks in advance!

All of the above. You'll need a real estate/title attorney to review and rework the contract and verify he even has any merit in his contract . A RE agent to run the numbers and valuation of the property and/or ARV for you. You can offer any price you think is suitable and any terms that you feel is fair and necessary to make the deal happen.
For your first deal I would stay away from wholesaler, if the looks looks too good .. there's a reason.
