Becoming a real estate agent

Collin Nieman
Posted

Hey everyone, my name is Collin Nieman and I'm 19.  I live in central Wisconsin and I attend school in Searcy, Arkansas.  I am eager to get into real estate investing. I would love to someday buy and hold properties.  Right now though, I have a situation.

This summer when I come back from school I will need to get a job.  I have a job that I can work at all summer if I can"t find anything else to do.  This job pays decently but it doesn't help me learn or grow.  Real estate is something that I'm very interested in so I thought "why not try to get a job that can help teach me more about real estate".

The first thing that popped into my head was getting my real estate licence and becoming an agent.  I know that obtaining a licence is a long and hard process and I'm not even sure if something like that could work as a summer job.  It would take a lot of work just to get the licence and I'm not even guaranteed any income. But, those things don't really scare me.  I'm willing to really attack this and work hard at it.  I do know that getting my licence will be huge benefit for me in the long run.

Am I crazy?  what do you think about this plan?  Ultimately I want a job that can give me real estate experience and that hopefully pays well.  If anyone else has any job suggestions I should look out for let me know!

Good evening @Collin Nieman,

I think getting your license can be a great decision, given the right opportunity.

If you can find an agent/broker who you can actually learn from, you can grow tremendously in a short amount of time.

While 2-3 months of summer break won't be a long enough time to build a business, there are other ways you can use your license to add value in a short amount of time.

You can be a cold-caller/deal finder/lead generator and collect a referral fee for any deal you lock up for an agent/brokerage.

You can also help out with social media marketing (from Wisconsin OR Arkansas).

I would look into getting your license online. Thats how I got mine and it wasn't very difficult. I used Realestateexpress.com and I'm sure there are other sites with decent study material.

I hope this helps...

Feel free to reach out it there is anything else I can help with.

Best of luck to you!

Abel
