The worst part is, none of the things you learn to get your license will help you when you become a RE agent. If you are lucky, you might use 10% of what you learned in school. That's why it's so important to join a brokerage with a great training program, or at least someone that will mentor you.

This is going to vary from state to state based upon state law. In TN we have to take some courses (and pass them) before taking the exam. I can't remember the details. A google search should give you the details for your state.

Here in Texas you have to take anywhere between 4-7 classes depending if you have a college degree. Then pass the national and state exam. After that every couple of years you're required to take continuing education classes.

In Alabama you have to have 60 hours and pass the exam. Just researched it because I'm going to get my liscense. $329 for the 60 hours and a prep class.
Yea, 40 hours of classroom for us here in MA. I remember when it used to be only 24, makes me wish I got it back then.
There are a ton of different "schools" offering the course, and even a few that will knock it out in two long weekends as opposed to one night a week for a few months.

@Jesse Rivera, 150hrs!! that is some serious stuff!! But, hey if you love what you do its not really work right?
I remember hearing a statistic (possibly on one of the BP podcasts) that it takes more hours of training to become a hairdresser than it does to become a real estate agent. (Of course I have nothing against the hair dressers of the world).
This may sound a little weird, but if someone told me I had to sit through 150 hours of RE training I think I might be a little excited..... You gotta soak it all up like a sponge, it can only make you better prepared!

Signed up with Pro Schools a few days ago for my Oregon RE license course. Looking forward to 150 hours of online classroom! No coffee needed as I love this stuff! Pro Schools gives you a year to complete their online course but my goal is to be licensed by the end of this year. My Xmas present to myself.

@Jesse Rivera We should be so lucky. We have way too many agents here because it's too easy to get licensed and too cheap to maintain. There would be far fewer ****** agents here in SC if it wasn't so easy.

In classes now. Alabama requires a 60 hour course. You can take class online, but have heard bad things about it. After you pass the course finale you can take the state test. After you pass, you will have 6 months to finish a 30 hour post license class.
