if I purchase a duplex that has 2 bedrooms each using an fha loan, can I find a roommate for the other bedroom in the unit I live in? Or is that not allowed?

The only FHA loan rule I have heard of is that it must be for your own personal residence and not 100% an investment. So you can rent out one side and as long as you live in the other side you can have as many roommates, visitors, pets, cars, trucks or garden gnomes that your community allows. Not FHA's concern.
