Spending time as a realtor?
Greetings investors,
I am on the path to get a real estate license and joining the Keller Williams brokerage (since they are investor friendly). However, I want to get started on my investing journey as soon as possible and I want to ask your opinion if I should be a realtor post license. I feel that focusing on being a realtor would give me background and I could do a couple sales to get a feel for it; but since realtor experience isn't as useful and applicable to investing I think it would be a distraction compared to doing anything real estate investing related (knowledge, networking, practice).
If you have been in my position I would love to hear your story.
Best Regards,
Brian Tran

@Brian Tran Good Question! I am an investor and Realtor. Now the journey started as an investor only - being under the impression that I need to be an expert in investing and let my agent be an expert in buying/selling real estate. However, my theory was great on paper, but I was having a hard time finding an investor friendly agent; one that would work fast enough, understand how I access properties, and see the property through an investors eyes. We bought a flip and then got my Realtor license while we were flipping. It has been so helpful from a data standpoint, knowing the area, understanding what buyers what at each price point and the resource of all my co-workers. It also helped that we saved almost 12,000 on commission that went back into our investing account. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! Good Luck!
