Broker Looking to Invest

Hi All

I'm TJ, I'm a broker in NY and NJ as well as an instructor. I have several years in sales, management and training but I have never invested.

I recently came into a significant amount of money or so it is for me. Rather than wasting it or leaving it in a bank account I'm interested in starting my own investment business to supplement my real estate sales.

My issue is that I come from a low income background and have fought my *** off, pardon my language to get to where I am now and comfortable. I know in theory the process of BRRR, Buy & Flip, Buy & Hold, et... but I am very worried about screwing it up and really putting myself and my family in the hole ( I have a wife and a 1 year old son). I also know that in many cases the llc will protect my personal assets and I fully believe this is either analysis paralysis or just fear of failure.

Thoughts on how to get past this and where you recommend starting?

@TJ Bardossas I can completely relate to you. I grew up in a single parent household. So I literally fought my backside off by enlisting in the US Army in order to earn college degrees. But real estate investing is the way to go. Best decision I've ever made for me and my family. I am glad I did. Suggest you work with another agent/investor like me that can help you navigate REI and avoid the pitfalls. Dallas/Ft. Worth area is a great place to invest. Much less than NYC. And landlord friendly laws are key if your looking to buy & hold. Which is what I recommend for beginner investors. Baby steps is the key. Get five deals in any one exit strategy before branching out into others. If you decide on more than one. But you need to get over analysis paralysis. You can't win unless you play. Hope this helps.
