My Morning Routine + Goal Setting
Thoughts on this article I will be posting soon? Hope you all find this useful!
The vast majority of successful people treat their morning as sacrosanct and attribute much of their success to the hours of work performed in the morning. For many others, however, their mornings are not as sublime and instead signal the start of a deluge of tasks which end up consuming their whole day. I would like to give my advice on how to build your perfect morning routine in order to set up the rest of your day for massive success.
But first, what NOT to do: do not hit snooze, do not check your email or phone first thing, and do not lounge in bed. I like to get up and have a glass of water then sit down for my most important part of my day. Every morning I journal about what I am grateful for for just a few minutes. Next, I make a commitment to myself about what my workout will be that day then write out my workout plan. Finally, I write out my life’s major goals, one in the physical, one in the mental, and one in the spiritual. Derived from these high level, overarching values/goals, I write out my one to five year goals, including a date next to each goal by which I am going to complete it. Just the act of writing down your goals boosts your productivity by 25%. BONUS TIP: Write out your goals as if you have already achieved them, such as “I control $100,000,000 dollars of real estate”. This is a positive reinforcement trick and helps to visualize your achievement, which has proven to improve performance. After writing out your goals, determine what you will do that day in order to bring yourself one step closer to achieving those goals and write these down under the heading “Today’s Actions”. This is an extremely important step because lofty goals can often be intimidating which causes procrastination or inaction. Instead, plan your day out to ensure you get to those high leverage activities that will get you where you want to go. One of Jim Rohn’s most famous quotes is “either run the day or the day runs you”. After I finish this writing process, which I endearingly call “scribing”, I meditate for 10-20 minutes by closing my eyes and counting my breaths one to ten then starting over at one again.
After I complete this morning routine, I usually feel super motivated, energized, and clear-headed and proceed to go crush it in the gym, class, and work. So what is your morning routine? I would love to hear your comments below. If you would like me to help you personalize your goal setting practice and morning routine, email, call or text me. Have a great day (morning)!
