You can tell those walls by looking easily mostly by if the walls have bricks that run length wise the whole way up (cavity wall) or if every so many rows, there looks to be a row that is made up of 'half bricks' ie the end of a brick.

There is not enough space on the side of the house to expand it to two car width wise, but there is space length wise to lengthen it and turn it into a two car tandem garage or add a carport in addition to the single car garage.
