I would ask the lender, but probably not most lenders want you to have skin in the game, even the seller takes on a lot of risk if you don't pay, because they would not be first loan position.

If you were, they would have coached you on what to do and how not to get stuck.If you get the mortgage in your name, then that doesn't solve the issue of putting the loan under your wife's name only.
