I've had experience with FHA requiring tedious repairs such as adding hand rails to small sets of steps, painting the floor, walls, and ceilings in basements, and other things that perhaps the seller is unwilling to do.

I guess most of what I'm seeing in my area are not technically duplexes, but rather referred to as twin homes or attached homes that share a party wall with another unit owned by someone else.
