In the US, I prefer airbnb that's a bit away (but I prefer hotels in the heart of the action whilst in NYC, Boston, SF, etc.).

Get pre-approved/pre-qualified to find out how much you qualify for, go for an owner-occupied FHA loan for 3.5% down, stay within your budget for downpayment, closing costs and reserves, look in the suburbs of Boston where multi's are more reasonably priced (along the 495 belt).
