Yes, legal representation can be expensive, but in cases like this, your claim can and should include court costs and attorney fees and that would be more expensive to the landlord than simply returning your full deposit.

Plenty of options if you are creative . . . just remember that the line "buy with no money down" is a con . . . you simply need to find a way to buy with someone else's money other than your own.
