The inspector said they were grandfathered in vs. newer codes. 

Would be a real shame if you an upstanding citizen looking out for his community noticed code violations and informed the city.....

. ;-)If I HAD to find a deal though, I'd probably pick up the phone and start calling into the zip code I wanted to buy and I wouldn't stop until I had a couple of possibilities, because a bunch always "fall out" for various reasons in the process.

Would you recommend using home advisor's estimate costs tailored to the specific zip code I'm working in to ascertain costs?
