I am new to Bigger Pockets and i am looking to network with fellow like-minded individuals as well.

Keep in mind i will begin my first year in college to get into med school, but want to buy a four plex before next year. 

@Rob Derasmo maybe things are different in your area but the first thing that the owners would do is look on zillow and see that the house is worth far more than the offer, nobody in their right mind would let a house go for $550k with a potential $500k profit attached to it

I will keep that in mind for future.

Last thursday, i was talking to an investor at RE meetup who just finished 3 flips in May that all 3 required 50k+ in reno, when i asked him how they did for him in profits, he said he profited only 8k between all 3 houses, which blew my mind, risking that much money for such pitiful returns, but he told me thats been the norm for him this past 1.5 years.

If anything, experiencing these hardships has put me in the best state of mind that I’ve ever been in.

There are certainly many advantages for investing in your own backyard in terms of existing relationships, understanding the market and extra peace of mind especially when just starting out. 

More expensive but long term more peace of mind.

But keep in mind that if you want to defer all tax you cannot reimburse yourself for the improvements. 

I live in the Yonkers, ny area I’ve been reading a lot on real estate and have come to the conclusion that finding a mentor will really be great For my educationone person actually came to mind, the thing is he happens to be a customer of the company I work for and I’m not sure if approaching him would be crossing any boundaries and just wanted to know your thoughts on it I work for a small heating and air-conditioning company and the customer am Referring to Is a real estate investor and former real  estate attorney.
