I've acquired books and other learning resources to further understand the field.

With the US elections and the global financial troubles in the news lately, it seems risky to go all in on this venture.

Also instead of submitting all your statements you can also get a CPA, Financial Planner, or Lawyer to write a letter verifying your accreditation status.  

I have been in manufacturing for almost thirty years and I feel I need to make a move toward financial independence. 

This site is definitely a great resource.

I don’t know your financial situation or how much you earn a year – but may I assume that an extra $10,000 per month on a continuous basis would free you from your slave wage job and give you the courage to do real estate full time?

There are a lot of great resources here including the podcasts and I believe there are a few free books as well (including the Bigger Pockets Ultimate Beginner's Guide).

I would post it here, but every time I answer someone's question and point them to the appropriate resource I get flagged somehow by BP for self promotion even though most the resources I suggest have nothing to do with me, then nobody benefits from hearing about the resource but that's BP's loss I guess.

But not sure of their exact financial situation, because they didn't feel comfortable sharing any more details than what I have.
