Today I heard one of my coworkers talking about how he’s paying to store some of his belongings in a self-storage unit.

In CA there's loads of stores where you can buy a 8-9'x26" prefab slab for $200-300.

My plan would be to buy this building, have the income from the apartments and storage to cover the mortgage and then gut the storefront and open a liquor store or bookstore and personally run it.

We planned on more so picking up furniture at sales and stores and grabbing lamps and stuff as we came across them at great prices was something we just did, so the second was over half furnished when we started looking.

Long story long.... my grandparents owned a large building with a store front attached back in the 80s.

There's an unavoidable risk associated with owning anything: cars, boats, bikes, properties and businesses.That's what insurance is for.Also, don't assume hiring a PMC will protect you 100%. 1) You'll only be protected as good as they are2) No matter what any PMC does, there are bound to be lawsuits from tenants & ambulance chasing lawyers trying to "get rich quick".

It's the same thing as paying somebody's bill at the grocery store, or restaurant, or paying their car payment.

If someone would have told you what was in store of 2020, what would you have done differently?

Sheriff deputy said I could either store it or take it to the dump if it wasn't retrieved.  

@Joel Brown Don't know UT laws, hope you don't get stuck paying to store his crap.
