Over time more of these laws will probably standardize across the country to protect both tenants and those working in the field.

@Mary Joe:This is true, but some of the taxes withheld by the IRS are rebated on our Canadian taxes due to tax treaties between the two countries.

Hi,We've uprooted ourselves from down under Australia and plonked ourselves smack in the unlikeliest of places, Japan, at a 360 degree cultural turnaround.We arrived two months ago and have survived in a country that speaks extremely limited English and has rigid societal and cultural norms.

I have served my country for 10 years honorably, done 3 deployments; 2 to Iraq and 1 to Afghanistan, I've also done 1 hardship tour to Korea. 

The country is pretty small traveling 75 mph.

Our end goal is to buy and hold rental properties across the country as a way to secure vocational freedom for my wife and I as well as to enrich our family's lifestyle.

So here I am.I live on Long Island, NY, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure that this is an area I am that interested in investing in (even though most of the books I have read suggest the best policy is to start local, and stick to areas you are familiar with), because from what I have seen so far, there are other regions around the country that seem significantly more vibrant and expansive than the North East.

Both of us have friends and family in other parts of the country, so we know it won't be too difficult to get set up somewhere.

I meet so many real estate investors all over the country and they chase the deal rather than building the rock solid buyer's list first.
