Can they contribute 50% of the down payment and closing costs without it going through me or being taxed as a gift or anything else?

They are also contributing part of the funds.  

Total contribution $225,000 Contractor "pays" $8,300 margin + $6,000 management fee = total contribution $14,300 total job cost = $239,300 so profit split would be 94% to equity partner and 6% to contractor.

So long as it conforms to the loan guidelines, put the clause "Seller is to contribute X dollars towards Buyer's pre-paids and closing costs," and then negotiate a higher sales price so the seller nets the same amount, but you basically wrapped the costs into the loan.
