Assuming you go FHA, your down payment is back down to 3.5% which expands that purchasing power, and with FHA you have to pass the self-sufficiency test on 3-4 unit properties. 

I agree with @Ken Latchers start off close by and learn the ropes before expanding so far away.

Especially with Apple expanding the campus in that area a mile down the road.

Once you feel like you have maxed a market out you can expand. 

Steve and I did start out living in multi-families that we purchased before we got married planning to expand from there.
