Put in microwave and vent.

One side of our duplex is fairly up to date, by that I mean the kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, and other creature comforts that modern families expect.

Younger tenant with Kids wants to buy her own appliances (Fridge, Stove, Microwave, washer, dryer).

A microwave and double hot plate should be good for most.

New closet doors and doors for rooms - the old ones are in bad shape and brown, and basically ruining the aestheticSome of the downsides of the unrented side are that there is no dishwasher or microwave and the stove and dryer are old and will need replaced.

My late grandparents relayed to me that some of the major advancements they were privy to in their life was the microwave, television, computers - they really didnt get to be around long enough to see much of the internet revolution - Mine so far has been the internet and social media and simply having virtually any piece of information at your fingertips - I'm sure a large contingent on here remember encyclopedia salesman or possibly their grandparents or parents having bought a set which is instantly outdated - or having to use them in school....Youtube, social media, Google, smart phones, lap tops/desktops etc etc have completely changed our world and education, specifically secondary education and the way it is presented to us as consumers has NOT changed or adapted at all and probably wont for decades unfortunately due to bureaucracy. 

vaccumed a dozen times and hired steam cleaner.this is how much dog hair came up from putting a piece of tape on the carpet.dog hair floating around, especially under aplliances and utility room.stove was filthy, and oily film above on microwave and cabinets.permanent oil stains in cabinetvinyl floors were filthydamage to appliance. 

(Except for maybe laundry, depending on where it is.)If you can find a good spot for it, you can squeeze a fridge, microwave, and toaster oven in to the basement and that suffices for a lot of people -- Airbnb/short-term rental guests for sure, and even many medium-term like tenants.

I added new laundry machines, added a vented microwave, replaced broken fans, replaced an old handrail, and did some other minor repairs and upgrades while living in one side.
