We have added parking behind the home on some of our houses or extended the driveway to allow for more off-street parking. 

Depending on how much cash you have on hand, you might be able to pay points on the loan and decrease the rate.

There is a burned out shell of a building located on a main street near our home.

It is comprised of people who lend money, those that want money and those that want to learn more about RE.  

He's on SSDI (Social Security Disability Income) at just under $1,500 a month and he wants to do some wholesales to make some extra income.Lets say he does a deal or multiple deals and makes any assignment fee on it/them and the profit exceeds 1.5k which is higher than his disability per month.

Decide what you want out of this journey—cash flow, long-term equity, or both.

This may seem like obvious advice, but I'd say just get three or four quotes before settling.
