I agree Jay that it is rather a lengthy piece of information but the premise is of course "predator lending" this is just feedback to allow other's to exercise and prepare for unethical business practices specifically to doing one's financial due diligence such that this is an illustration of caveat emptor or let the buyer beware to prevent fraud from manifesting as a reality with no recourse for action. 

There are these horrible doctrines known as "issue preclusion" and "claim preclusion" which would likely prevent you from proceeding.

I would try to clear the air somehow but since he went to the police accusing you albeit indirectly of theft that might be a tough one.

Gas & electric are both common here - the only reason they catch on fire is because idiots let the lint accumulate & block the air flow, not because of the fuel source.If you go with electric, be sure you have a dedicated circuit run for it - that's another source for horror stories.
