absolutely..i try not to do much labor work anymore, but ya still gotta know estimates on prices, and how much materials you'll need...i had a new electrician doing a rewire for me, and i was buying the materials...he told me he'd need this many rolls of 10-3 wire....i said he didn't need that many, and he said, "ok"...i'm pretty sure he was trying to steal a 100 dollar roll of wire from me....he doesn't do rewires for me anymore :) people will take advantage of the weak in this business...if you don't know how much of a material you'll need, pay attention from different estimates, and write it down fo the next job...after a while, you'll start to learn how much you need for different jobs..
