Does the BRRRR strategy only work if I have good credit?

I read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki and that changed the way I looked at wealth building. 

I am considering an FHA loan (I have okay credit- good enough to qualify, and little money to put down, but my family will help me out with my down payment).

And I'd expect my credit score to reflect that in a year or so and move back into purchasing a home rather than rent.The firm I work for requires credit/criminal/security clearances.

Newbie pending landlord.Which sites/services would you recommend/have experience with for background checks and credit checks?

I am getting started purchasing rentals in a rural and generally poor area where we live.

@Steve Vaughan The only debt I have is my mortgage and a few k in credit cards.

Ultimately I would love to start investing in rental properties and potentially even short term rentals through Airbnb or VRBO, but right now I have no cash and poor credit, so those are unfortunately probably longer term aspirations.
