The absolutely disgusting for-profit prison system in this country coupled with the removal of rights and social stigmas placed on felons does nothing more than encourage recidivism. 

(unless you are very confident she can afford the place on her own, you can not depend on money from the husband).Ideally your goal should be to encourage her to move before you end up on the short end. 

If you're going to be living in one unit, i would highly encourage you to not self-manage.

Yes, you can simply rent it out to either long term tenants or even do a STR (Short Term Rental) via Airbnb or any of those platforms.
