Call all references and ask to see all identification.

Wikipedia says an invoice may contain a tax number and that "The US Defense Logistics Agency requires an employer identification number".

If you've found a VIN number or identifying tag anywhere on it that may help.   

You would need to set up an account with a QI prior to closing on the sale, you are unable to take receipt of the funds, then you have 45 days to identify your replacement property or properties using a specific identification rule, and then another 135 days to close on one or all of those properties.

Start by identifing the rental properties in your area, research the owner via tax records and contact them. 

See if the seller can give you a VIN off the trailer and have the VT DMV do a title check.

Foreclosures can work but the calendar requirements for identification and completion can make it difficult.
