Now, I tend to lean toward architectural purism, but at the same time feel, unless a house is of some historic importance, nothing is exactly architecturally sacrosanct.That said, most bathrooms are usually on the side or the rear of the house, where I feel there is more latitude for minor updating.So, I usually install a wide but skinny gun slit close to the ceiling with a jalousie window (or split it into two jalousies), so the bottom is well above head-height.

I have a friend who oversees a huge industrial fund.The takeaway from talks is any building older than about 5 years or so tends to be outdated for many of today's business needs.The older buildings do not have the additional ceiling heights today's tenants want along with other items.

Comps in your area are going to dictate 90% of the value of your house- you can "add" based on some things that are "better" at your house, but some of them don't really make that big of a difference to many potential buyers......The house is worth what someone will pay for it....bottom line...... and we ALL tend to think our possessions are worth more than they really are..... that's human nature since we have an emotional connection to them.

If my mind knows something is a one-off attempt and we'll weigh the results later, knowing it can go back to it's old ways if it doesn't work out....things tend to go over a lot more smoothly.
