The so-called "Blue" states are examples of where the cost of living and doing business is unreasonable.

Between the two of them my grandparents, first generation Italian immigrants with no high school, had three pensions they earned working blue-collar, low-wage jobs, that allowed them a reasonably comfortable retirement.
