@Andrey Y.The TSP is one of the best investment vehicles (if not the best) out there when it comes to index funds.  

Set it up ahead of when you anticipate needing it, on a portfolio basis, and you can have 'safety' and 'future leverage' in the same investment vehicle.

Roll your teacher retirement account out of that vehicle into a low-cost index fund or ETF fund.

I'm currently without a vehicle deciding if I should get a used truck for 40k and pay roughly about 800 a month and enjoy what I drive or buy something for 5K cash and save more money for my REI and sacrifice having a nice car
