If you had an interest in real estate you could focus on the sales side.

Chances are you didn't use it when you purchased so unless something changed you should still qualify and there wouldn't be benefit to including that. 

Disappointment is a major part of Real Estate success.

You also would need to properly account for all of this.You would want to discuss your specific situation with a qualified CPA to determine if this can be done and if it really benefits you any.
