Currently working at a large upscale resort in Miami, FL making OK money (50k a year plus benefits).I increasingly find myself not wanting to deal with under performing employees with bad attitudes and bosses who are out of touch with priorities and needs.

When demand outpaces production (during a boom economy), business owners need to INVEST money into things like factories, equipment, increased inventory, a layer of employee management, etc. 

Also the property management try to move it to someone else, so you can focus on expanding your business, and not being an employee of the business.

Example: A tenant submits a "task" but a system administrator (you or an employee) has to then create a work order from scratch, reassociate the work order back to the tenant task and then assign to a technician.

If you're a commission-based employee now and you're moving to a new commission based job in the same line of work, you'd likely be fine since you have the 2 year history of receiving commission income in your field.
