The big players have access to investor cash and have the means to work with borrowers and legal system, while it takes working knowledge, the returns can be very attractive for even small scale investors.

It would be fairly attractive and I think fairly low-maintenance, but it would cost $4/foot to buy and install.

If your doesn't, start one.Start with good, solid, cash flow rentals in areas that attract working class tenants. 

A properly designed, and funded life insurance policy will allow an investor make more money by leveraging their cash value.

Dodd-Frank wasn't designed to hurt renters - but may in fact have done so by limiting owner financed deals, and making renters rent longer until they can go to a bank.
