Thanks for sharing this article.The author has cherry picked the pieces that negatively supports his line of reasoning.Additionally, there is no guarantee that everyone who invested in stocks would see a positive return as quoted.So, it depends on the drive, plan, creativity and mindset of the individual.It's a known fact that most of the millionaires made/secured their wealth through RE and not the stock market.Looking back at the author's path to home ownership, he could have re-calibrated his steps and do creative REI investing to make himself whole.The author's story sounds like a good one to tell, generate laughter and lively conversations, but, I am not convinced with his line of reasoning about home ownership.

Just off the top I would say that if your contract with a contractor does not specifically address and include a reimbursement for your time or the cost to you for a  a property manager needed to come open and or remain on the premises then the cost of your Pm is simply your cost of doing business and the contractor is only responsible for his time and labor including replacing material if and when required under their warranty agreement or guarantee

Since it was home search (I don't even know what that is), I'm assuming the house was a foreclosure, if that's the case, banks make no warranties or guarantees associated with the house, and they ask you do your own due diligence.Check the permit that was pulled in 2011, see if any work was recorded to fix the issue.
