If it is medical bills we tend not to care as much as long as they are paired with someone with better credit etc.So not super black and white on this issue and maybe why you are finding it hard to get specific answers.

Those who attacked Jim and called him a racist remind me of the ridiculous character played by Stephen Colbert a few years back who claimed that he could not see color - to the point where Colbert's character claimed he did not know if he himself was white or black.
