Wussup fellas, im fairly new as well...I'm also from Brooklyn and I've been mailing out letters for a couple of months to owners of properties that look distressed or based off of public record...I've gotten a few calls but they were not motivated...I've never bought a list, maybe that'll be my next move.

Today I attended my very first meet-up ever and it was on note buying.

I've spoken to a couple of agents, and I have not found anything that will provide sufficient return.And this week I had a thought (more than one, but one relevant to this discussion!)

Get a couple bids from multiple GC's and then pick the bid you like best.

In fact I saw a couple the other day that @Ramiah Thomas posted that look like great opportunities for flips.

Would I need to RSVP in advance or do anything else to attend? 

I’m getting ready to go look at a couple of duplexes for sale on 27th St., so we’ll see how that goes.

This is a college town, as well, with some 30,000 students attending the University of Kentucky and thousands more attending smaller schools.
