My new STR property is owned by a multi-member LLC (consisting of my family members). 

I have already secured renters and am very excited to get started.Regarding the Chicago market, I have come to understand that there is an abundance of multi-family properties, but it is important to note the property taxes outside the city limits can be very high.

I know that's the long game, but would you recommend getting involved in multi-family rentals or other strategies, in the context of my long term goal?

You can always close sooner if everything comes back clean on the title and all parties are ready to close.

Some still say that, some STILL don't.2 - First part is true, but depreciation doesn't impact appreciation. 

It really does come down to having a clear written agreement between all parties so everyone knows what to expect.

The Cap Ex _ you know what, i don't think the percent was considering multi units.

Once I have that sorted, I plan on targeting duplex/multi-family properties.
